Features
Volumes that outlive the instance.
Durable by design
A volume keeps its data in durable storage, not on the machine that runs your instance, so it survives instance stops and host failures.
Storage classes
General Purpose (gp1, SSD) is the class on sale and the default. Throughput Optimized (st1) and I/O Intensive (io1) are listed, but not on sale yet.
Scalable capacity
Grow a volume in place as your data grows, with one API call or CLI command.
Use cases
Where teams use it.
Databases
Postgres or MySQL data on a gp1 volume that outlives the instance it is attached to.
Bring your disks
Import an existing disk image, such as a qcow2, from an HTTP(S) URL as a new volume.
Backup and recovery
Snapshot a volume and create a new volume from it when you need it. Protect the snapshot first, and it can back an image too.
Volume Storage is live today, in open beta.
The Storage docs cover volumes, snapshots and storage classes, with GraphQL API and CLI examples, readable without an account.
